This study has been withdrawn
On 22 August 2026 we published an article at this address analysing play counts across our game catalogue. We withdrew it the same day. If you read it, cited it, or linked to it, this note explains why — and we are sorry for the error.
What was wrong
The article presented its numbers as TRPLX’s own first-party play data — our measurement of how much our visitors play each game. They were not.
The figures were computed from a dataset that was loaded into this site before launch. It describes game popularity, but it is not a record of plays on TRPLX: it covers 3,703 game slugs while our live catalogue holds 1,952 games, only 123 of which appear in both. Its headline total of roughly 10.6 million plays is far larger than anything our own traffic could account for.
The arithmetic in the article was correct. The description of where the numbers came from was not, and that is the part that mattered.
What we are doing about it
We do measure real plays on this site, and we are rebuilding our reporting so that it draws on that measurement and nothing else. Until that is finished:
- We are not publishing a play-count study.
- We are not displaying per-game play counts anywhere on the site.
- Where a page would otherwise call something “most played”, it says something plainer instead.
When we can stand behind the numbers as our own, we will write this study again from that data and say plainly what it does and does not cover.
